2.44.3 Conducting music

When a character attempts to conduct music, i.e. keep a group of musicians in syncronisation throughout a piece of music, he/she should make a dice roll using his/her Music (including conducting specialisms) + PE. The character gets a +2 bonus if the group has rehearsed the tune beforehand, a +2 bonus if all of the group deliver at least a competent performance, a further +2 bonus if all of the group deliver a good performance, and finally a +2 bonus if any of the main performers delivers an excellent performance.

The dice roll result determines how good the overall performance sounds to listeners, as follows:

Dice roll result Meaning
3 or lower Abysmal performance - the group breaks down and has to stop part way through
3 1/2 - 6 Poor performance - the group makes it through the tune but makes quite a few mistakes or is out of time
6 1/2 - 10 Competent performance - the group plays in tune and in time
10 1/2 - 15 Good performance - the group delivers a professional quality performance
15 1/2 or more Excellent performance - the group delivers an inspired performance that enthralls the audience
