2.54.2 Concealing items in the hands

Concealing small items

A character can conceal a small item in his/her hands (e.g. by palming the item) if the character makes a dice roll using his/her Sleight of hand (including concealing items specialism) + CO.

The difficulty varies from 4 for a very small item (e.g. coin) to 10 for a relatively large item (e.g. knife). Because of the importance of misdirection in concealing items, the character gets a penalty of -3 on the dice roll if he tries to work one-handed.

If the character succeeds in the dice roll, he/she will successfully palm the item. If he/she fails, he/she will fail to plam the item and may bungle and drop the item.

Noticing concealment

An onlooker will notice a person attempting to conceal an item in his/her hands, if he/she makes a dice roll using his/her Sleight of hand (including noticing concealment specialism) + PE.

The difficulty is equal to the dice roll result achieved by the person concealing the item.

The victim has a -3 penalty on his/her dice roll to notice the concealment attempt if he/she is distracted (e.g. by an accomplice) at the time the concealment attempt is made.
