2.22.3 Torture

If a character has captured a person and has that person under his/her control, he can spend time torturing the person to attempt to extract information from them or persuade them to carry out actions.

Every hour that a character tortures the person, he can make a torture dice roll using his/her Intimidation (including torture specialism) + IQ. The dice roll result is then compared with the victim's resistance dice roll result, to determine whether the victim reveals information or breaks under the torture:

Torture dice roll result less Resistance dice roll result Victim's response
Zero or lower No information or co-operation from the victim.
1-4 Talks, but does not co-operate. May reveal hints as to whether or not he/she knows anything important and what that might be.
5-8 Partially breaks. Co-operates with the torturer. Reveals some information (but not necessarily everything he/she knows). Will agree to do what the torturer wants (but may intend to back out of the agreement at the last minute).
9 or more Breaks. Co-operates fully with the torturer. Tells everything he/she knows. Agrees to do what the torturer wants (and the fear of further torture compels the victim to carry the action through).

Torturers will tend to inflict wounds on their victims, since the ongoing impairment from such wounds reduces their victims' ability to resist the torture. Similarly, torturers will often deprive a victim of sleep, since victims' tiredness also reduces their ability to resist the torture.
