1.12.5.2 Explanation of attack mode statistics

Each different attack mode is rated with the skill used, number of hands, range, attack speed, attack modifier, parry modifier, damage modifier and damage type (see 1.12.5.1 for a listing).

These have the following meanings:

Skill used: this combat skill is used in dice rolls for attacking, doing damage and parrying/blocking.

Number of hands: i.e. whether this mode can be done one-handed or needs to be two-handed.

Range: how close the target has to be to the attacker for the attacker to use this mode. The range is expressed as the number of metres that the attacker is away from the target:

Attack speed. This is the number of action points required to carry out the attack. For melee attacks, this varies between 1 for a very quick attack to 4 for a major all-out blow.

Attack modifier, reflecting how easy it is to hit an opponent using this mode - this is a modifier to the attack dice roll when attacking with this weapon;

Parry modifier (see 1.12.5.3), reflecting how easy it is to parry or block using this mode - this is a modifier to any defence dice roll when parrying or blocking with this weapon;

Damage rating, reflecting how much damage the weapon typically does in this mode - this is used in the damage dice roll if an attack hits the target. If the damage ratings is marked with a *, the attacker does not add his/her ST to get to the basic damage (the damage is fixed and not depend on the attacker's ST);

Type of damage: i.e. impaling, cutting, blunt or special. This affects the impact of damage on the target.
