There are six main brawling or improvised close combat maneuvers, all of which predominately use the Combat skill. The table below summarises common brawling maneuvers. Each is then described in more detail in the linked section.
Brawling maneuver | Action, Reaction or Follow-on | Action point cost | Skill used | Range | Attack mod. | Damage rating | Description |
Close Combat Weapon Attack | Action, reaction or follow-on | Varies based on weapon speed | Varies based on weapon mode | 0 (Close) | Varies based on weapon mode | Varies based on weapon mode | The character aims an attack with a weapon at a target. The attack must be carried out from within the target's hex, so the character may (as part of this maneuver) close into the target's hex (if he/she is in an adjacent hex). May be executed as a reaction to someone closing into the character's hex. May be executed as a follow-on after a successful Block, Forearm Block or Side-step Dodge maneuver. |
Punch | Action, reaction or Follow-on | 2 | Combat | 0 (Close) | +0 | 5 Blunt | The character aims an attack with his/her fist at a target's upper body or head. The attack must be carried out from within the target's hex, so the character may (as part of this maneuver) close into the target's hex (if he/she is in an adjacent hex). May be executed as a reaction to someone closing into the character's hex.The character may take damage from this maneuver if the target is armoured. May be executed as a follow-on after a successful Block, Forearm Block or Arm Grab maneuver. |
Kick | Action | 3 | Combat | 0 (Close) | +0 | 6 Blunt | The character aims an attack with his/her foot or knee to the target's lower body or legs (or a prone opponent). The attack must be carried out from within the target's hex, so the character may (as part of this maneuver) close into the target's hex (if he/she is in an adjacent hex). The character may take damage from this maneuver if the target is armoured. |
Head Butt | Follow-on | 3 | Combat | 0 (Close) | +0 | 6 Blunt | Following a successful Block, Forearm Block or Arm Grab maneuver, the character aims an attack with his/her head at the target's upper body or head. The attack must be carried out from within the target's hex, so the character may (as part of this maneuver) close into the target's hex (if he/she is in an adjacent hex). The character will often take some damage from this maneuver as heads clash. |
Body Check | Action | 3 | Combat | 0 (Close), only as a closing maneuver | +2 | 5 Blunt, but extra knock-back | The character closes into the target's hex and attempts to knock the target over by ramming into the target with his/her body. This maneuver can also be done with a Shield as a shield barge. The attack is always aimed at the target's body (Chest). There is a bonus on the knockback resulting from this attack. If the target is not knocked back, the character may bounce backwards instead. |
Grapple | Action | 3 | Combat | 0 (Close) | -2 | n/a, creates a hold | The character attempts to grab the target's arms and restrain him/her in a hold. |
