There are many different natures of magical effect
available:
- Detection, i.e. sensing specific
substances;
- Illusion,
i.e. creating images and/or sounds without physical substance;
- Concealment, i.e. becoming harder for
others to sense;
- Deflection, i.e. making it harder for a
weapon to strike a target;
- Resistance, i.e. making a target more
resistant to damage;
- Attack, i.e. causing damage to other
characters through magic;
- Entanglement, i.e. restricting another
character's movement through magic;
- Healing, i.e. restoring a damaged
character's health;
- Teleportation, i.e. instantly
transporting from one place to another;
- Telekinesis, i.e. lifting, moving and/or
manipulating objects at a distance;
- Telepathy, i.e. communicating with others
and/or reading their thoughts;
- Suggestion, i.e. implanting a mental
suggestion in another character's mind to influence or control his/her
actions;

an existing magical enchantment;
- Transformation, i.e. changing the target
character's form into that of a different creature, taking on its
appearance and abilities;
- Sight, i.e. improving a character's
senses (e.g. to enable him/her to see in darkness);
- Movement, i.e. being able to move more
quickly than normal or in a way not normally possible (e.g. flight);
- Environmental change, i.e. changing the
state of the environment (e.g. making it hotter, colder, brighter,
darker, etc. ) for the duration of the enchantment;
- Barrier, i.e. creating a magical wall or
barrier that stops other characters passing through it;
- Retrocognition, i.e. sensing what
happened in the past (or in some cases what will happen in the future);
- Weapon enhancement, i.e. improving the
effectiveness of a weapon;
- Transmutation, i.e. changing one

- Characteristic boosting/draining, i.e.
increasing or decreasing the value of one of the target's characteristic
scores; and
- Life support, i.e. changing the nature of
a character's talents/disabilities for the duration of the enchantment,
e.g. so that the character is better able to survive in circumstances
that would otherwise be dangerous (e.g. water breathing).
Certain magical skills are better than others at achieving particular
effects (e.g. Truth magic skill is the best skill for casting detection
magic) and there may be limitations in what can be
achieved using a particular magical skill (e.g. Death magical skill
cannot be used to heal, etc.).
